What is microfiber?
Created during the 1950s, microfiber is an extremely fine synthetic fiber that is only about 1/5 the diameter of a human hair. It's made from polyesters and polyamides like nylon and Kevlar or a blend of such. It's most commonly used to make things like mats and upholstery as well as cleaning materials. Microfiber is known for it's ability to absorb and repel water as well as filtering capabilities. It was adapted by Japanese scientists in the 1960s that resulted in its use for the industrial industry. A decade later it began to be used in the textile industry. It was first internally recognized only in the 1990s when it was first marketed in Sweden. Today it is a common material in clothing because it is especially good at wicking away moisture.
What causes foot odor?
Though socks keep our feet warm, they also serve as protection against skin damage from the shoe, but also most importantly as moisture absorbers to stop stinky feet. So what causes smelly toes? It isn't the sweat itself, but actually the resulting bacteria. Every drop of sweat is a breeding ground for bacteria because when you are wearing shoes, there is little room for ventilation. Once you start sweating and aren't wearing socks, the bacteria, mostly called, brevibacteria, thrive and start giving off gas that makes our feet smell. So the lesson here is: always wear socks!
